We have founded our moral authority on inviolable laws which we apply according to the motto “take it or leave it”, depending on how we particularly stand on that in a specific moment, under certain circumstances, in a certain culture.
In other words…
There is absolutely no fundamental standard for our morality except what functions and does not function.
We are even in agreement – which not our words, but our behaviour patterns demonstrate – that the Word of God, as it is recorded in various Holy Scriptures, is not to be followed to the letter because it is not infallible. We base our morals on spiritual laws which on the whole do not make any sense. They are also contradictory from scripture to scripture. Hence mankind was given laws from which we choose, from which we must select in order make something sensible out of them. We do not want to admit that we act this way, otherwise we would be guilty of the accusation of relativism. We want to be absolutists. We want to believe that there is an absolute “right” and “wrong”. Yet in the end we must always decide what that is.
So we have demonstrated our respective action.
